Time frame of CAN bus data

I am wondering about the source of time frame? Is it same as the vehicle’s dashboard clock?

Umm… huh? What?

CAN data has no inherent time frame or clock. It just plain “is”. When you see timestamps they’re generated by the device that has recorded the frame. There are many options such as “time since the capture device started”, “wall clock time” and “time since the last time time the timer was reset”.

Does that answer your question or did I not understand what you were asking?
