Honda Civic 2012 CAN identifier

Is there any way to find the list of CAN identifiers of Honda Civic 2012?

Specifically, I am looking for Engine RPM, yaw rate, steering wheel angle, speed, brake status, and acceleration.

First of all, go here:

You’ll find that there is a DBC file for a 2016 and 2017 variant of the Honda Civic. They might not have changed a lot since 2012. I don’t know. But, you should try those files and see if the data still works.

If it does work then you are done. You will need something that reads DBC files. As luck would have it, SavvyCAN does read DBC files but I think the format of the DBC files at commaai might confuse SavvyCAN. Let me know if it works. I think I modified one of their files to work once. I can either modify a file for you or fix SavvyCAN.

If the signals from the DBC file either don’t have the values you need or have wrong signals for your vehicle then you need to search for them. You can do this by logging traffic when nothing is happening. Then do something. Try to see which message changed and how it changed. This is a meticulous and boring job but that’s pretty much how all those DBC files got made. You can use some tools to help with this (SavvyCAN does have several tools to help) but it’s still a tedious process.

Thanks for your information. It seems the CAN ids in these dbc files are not same as in ninth generation (2011-1015) Honda Civic’s.
From the paper entitled “Accuracy and Characteristics of 2012 Honda Event Data Recorders from Real-Time Replay of Controller Area Network (CAN) Traffic”, I have come to know that the speed and steering wheel angle can ids should be 0x309 and 0x153, respectively. I think I need to check manually using SavvyCan. But I am not sure how to change the yaw rate.

Hey Collin,
I have figured out most of the identifiers (except one for yaw rate). Can you give me some hints to modify GVRET to hook GPS sensor with 26 pin connector and save all data into a sd card?
